Community Food Garden

In our modern world, growing your own food is a deeply rewarding way to feel more connected to nature. If you’ve ever picked a home-grown tomato from the vine and popped it straight into your mouth, you’ll know the feeling.

Growing food as a community amplifies the joy you’ll feel much more than you may imagine.

The community food garden at The Quaives has become a space where local people can come together to grow food and make new friends. We share so much: the gardening jobs, seeds, plants, knowledge, harvests, meals, laughter.

It’s incredibly fun – and you’re invited to join in.

A small group meets there on most weekends. You’re welcome to become a ‘regular’, come along once, or just turn up whenever you can.

If you’re interested, please get in touch for more details on how to participate.

Everyone’s welcome, from absolute beginners to seasoned gardeners, children and adults. Whether your motivation is to learn, share your own knowledge, make friends, harvest home grown veg, enjoy good food with others or even if you’re just curious to find out more: you’ll receive a warm welcome.

The group meets for a couple of hours on most weekends, but there’s no commitment. You can join us whenever you like.

The group usually meets on a Sunday morning at 10am. We have an active Whatsapp group for regular members.

Very important: the garden is situated within private grounds, so you’ll need to meet outside the entrance.

If you’re planning to attend a session, please let us know first so we can make sure someone is there to greet you and take you to the garden.

The sessions are usually 2 hours, although you can leave anytime if you’re not able to stay for the full session.

Yes! It’s completely free. Joining in needn’t cost you a penny.

Unfortunately not. Dogs aren’t allowed in the community garden, so your canine friend will have to sit this one out.

Children are very welcome to join our group, but they need to be accompanied by an adult.

You don’t need to bring anything with you, but there are a few things you might be glad to have with you:

  • Sturdy footwear (trainers or walking shoes will be fine)
  • A waterproof jacket
  • A bottle of water
  • Gardening gloves, if you have them
  • A carrier bag in case there’s a harvest to share out that day

We have a small number of garden tools that can be shared, but if you have easy access to a garden hoe, fork and/or secateurs they may come in handy.
