No. We welcome everybody, from absolute beginners to experienced horticulturists.
We’re a mixed group and everybody is welcome! You don’t even need to have a garden at home. Just an interest in learning more.
We’re based in the village of Wickhambreaux, a few miles east of Canterbury. Most of the in-person events take place at locations in the village, and for a few we venture out further into Kent.
Joe also hosts online events through his website Gardening Mentor and is very active on his blog there.
Absolutely! You’ll always receive a warm welcome from us.
We are a non-competitive, inclusive group and we encourage people of all ages and from all backgrounds to get involved.
If you’re interested in learning about plants, wildlife and the natural world, you’ll share something in common with everyone in the group!
Our events are family friendly.
Well behaved children are welcome to come along with adult family members if they want to develop their interest.
Please note that the events are tailored to adults, however we will try to make children feel included.
Nope, we’re an informal group.
If you’re on the email list, you’re in the club!
And if you come to an event, you’re even more in the club. Go you!
Emails to this group will come from Joe Vary at Gardening Mentor because we manage our email lists in one place.
If you join the mailing list from this site, you’ll receive updates about local club events, plus get a gardening gem from Joe in your inbox once a week.
Whilst we appreciate that everybody will do things slightly differently. We promote environmentally sustainable and regenerative practices.
Think no dig, cover crops, pesticide free, and working with nature as much as possible.
There are weekly informal gardening sessions at scheduled times at the Community Food Garden.
As the garden is located inside private grounds, we ask that you get in touch for further details and so we can make sure someone will be there to greet you outside the entrance on your first visit.
Mostly the group members take produce home. Some gets used by the restaurant on-site.
Whilst most of our events are free, a selection come with a small cost to attend.
These costs help to cover event overheads such as speaker fees, venue hire, and other running costs for the group.
If there’s an event you’d really like to attend but are unable to pay the ticket price, please contact us.
Woohoo! We’d love to hear from you. The group relies on people volunteering their time and skills.
If you’d like to support the group, even in a small way, please get in touch.
Whilst we’re dog friendly people, unfortunately the events are not suitable for dogs.
So your canine buddy will have to sit this one out 🐶
